About Our Chapter
Monthly meeting alert! Our meetings are on the second Thursday of each month. Our current meeting place is Elmers Restaurant 1590 NE Burnside Gresham, OR. Social hour starts at 6 p.m. and the business meeting runs 7 to 8 pm. Everyone and anyone is welcome to join our meeting!
Mt. Hood Chapter runs a good mix of speakers, member discussions, work parties, rides, and camp-outs. A vital role is an attendance at public agency meetings. This includes submitting comments to public agencies on matters related to equestrian use in the Zigzag, Hood River, and Barlow Ranger Districts, and in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, all located in the Mt. Hood National Forest. We also participate in the Bureau of Land Management and Oregon State Parks planning meetings.
Members join together for fun at our annual Play Day in March, the Deschutes River Ride, Corncob Ranch and Spray Rodeo, annual campout, day rides, and our laughter-filled Christmas Party.
Mt. Hood Chapter horse crews open wilderness trails using crosscut saws in the Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness. For non-saw people, there is always brush to cut or water bars to clean.

What’s Happening
- A BIG project this year was the construction of the connector trail from the new Douglas trailhead, Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness. At the request of our chapter, Trailkeepers of Oregon agreed to take on this project. Equestrians from OET and BCH joined in. Zigzag Ranger District funded the track hoe work and design of the trail.
- In 2013 Mt. Hood and North Valley built two, two-stall corrals at Herman Creek Campground and reclaimed a place to park horse trailers at the Herman Creek Trailhead. You can use this trailhead for a quick connection to the Pacific Crest Trail.
- In 2010 Mt. Hood and North Valley Chapters finished 11 sites with 30 stalls at Clackamas Lake Campground, located close to Timothy Lake and by Clackamas Lake. The corral sites are on the national reservation system. You can ride the Pacific Crest Trail north or south, or take a beautiful ride around Timothy Lake. With Joe Graham Horse Camp and Clackamas Campground Corrals there is an opportunity for a large group equestrian campout.
Whether you ride in a parade, help clear trails, lead a day ride, or pick your favorite camp for a campout, you can find your horsey groove with Mt. Hood. You are always welcome to attend our meetings held on the second Thursday, M & M Restaurant, 137 Main Street in Gresham. The food is good, and we have a lot of fun. Dinner is 6 p.m. (order from menu) and the meeting time is 7-8 p.m. For more information email mthood@oregonequestriantrails.org.
