Have you ever considered taking a trip into the Three Sisters Wilderness? Rhonda Marquis from our Central Oregon Chapter has done it and offers these tips:
Oregon is more populated and seems a little tamer than Alaska, but you can still get cold, hungry, hurt, or lost just as easily. A popular Oregon destination is the Three Sisters. Here are some tips to help you plan that trip:
- For a relaxed trip, take at least four days/three nights.
- The trip can be done without a pack horse, but having at least one pack horse helps spread out the load for each equine.
- Be sure to pay close attention to the balance of the load.
- Spend the money on a map or two, and carry a compass so
you can orient yourself. - Practice Highlining.
- Plan your meals.
- Pack a stove to heat water.
- Don’t forget utensils.
- Consider water needs.
- Think of clothes that can be put to dual purpose.
- Save empty zipper bags to use as garbage bags for trash.
- Try to have two uses for each item you take.
- Don’t forget the horse food.

I’m coming from Cal in 2 weeks, (July 25, 2016,) to camp at Cultus or Quinn Meadows. I could use advice on loop trails about 15 miles in length. Also I’d like to ride the PCT or Met-Win north to McKenzi highway where my husband is willing to pick me up. Obviously I’m flying blind so any info would be appreciated.
