In 1983, Mildred Kanipe passed away, and left her beloved ranch to the public as a Douglas County Park. Mildred’s gift included almost 1,100 acres of land consisting of pastures, creeks, rolling hills, orchards and forests. Mildred Kanipe Park offers historical adventure with structures include a turn-of-the-century schoolhouse, a farmhouse, and outbuildings. The campground is an Equestrian’s dream with 15 horse sites, and multiple corrals ranging between 1 to 4 in each site. If you do not have a horse, and still want to enjoy this beautiful historic land, there is 6 non-equestrian sites. Mildred Kanipe Memorial Park is located near Oakland, OR, East of Interstate 5, 16513 Elkhead Road, Oakland, OR 97462.
Roseburg Chapter of Oregon Equestrian Trails completed installation of corrals at 15 sites. There are 6 one-horse, 5 two-horse, and 4 four-horse corrals. Thirty-two corrals total!
The Roseburg Chapter received a grant from the Oregon Equestrian Trails to help purchase the two- and four-horse corrals. These were delivered and bolted together on-site. The first corral setup took a little over an hour, the last one took less than 20 minutes! Despite the heat and the fire danger this summer, the new camp has seen a lot of patronage. A horse camp we can be proud of.
Mildred Kanipe Park offers wonderful day-riding and hiking opportunities, view trail map. It is a popular riding area for equestrians from all over the state. A separate entrance on Elkhead Road leads to an open area for trailer and car parking next to a 24′ x 24′ pavilion and a public restroom. Numerous marked loop trails allow riders, and hikers alike, to explore old growth Douglas fir forests, oak savannahs, and sunlit meadows. The forested hilltops provide expansive views, where deer pop out of the brush, and wild flowers bloom in season.
Thanks again to Roseburg Chapter of Oregon Equestrian Trails six (6) single horse corrals were constructed and installed! The County has purchased an additional nine (9) corrals (constructed by OET) from B&V Enterprises.
Attention: Online reservations are available! Reservations can be made by now!

I have three Appaloosa-arab mix horses. I am currently looking for pasture for my horses in the Roseburg area. We live in Winston. I would very interested in joining you-all. I and my sons have raised all three horses to trail ride and hunt. My wife and I moved to Winston from Southern Idaho in the fall of 2017, taking the Winston Assembly of God church as their senior pastor.
